Reusable Containers
August 19, 2018
Sodexo @ NEO is pleased to introduce phase I of our newest sustainability program.
Why are we doing this?
The reusable container program reduces excess waste, while still giving our customers an opportunity to take their lunch in the café to-go. Last year in the Café we used approx. 9,000 disposable to-go boxes (over 7,000 in Fall Semester alone)! This put 309 lbs. of Styrofoam waste in landfills, which will take no less than 500 years to decompose!
How does it work?
When you want to take your food to-go, simply purchase a to-go container, or bring back your used, rinsed one. We will exchange it for a cleaned and sanitized container for you to fill and take with you. If you want to bring back your used container, but don’t want to pick up a new one yet, we will give you a carabiner as a token. Simply present your carabiner the next time you want to take your food to-go and we’ll give you a clean, sanitized container.
What else do I need to know?
- The cost associated with the program is a ONE-TIME cost for each to-go box (you really only need one, but can purchase as many as you like).
- We ask users to just rinse their containers before bringing them back, and we clean and sanitize each one before recycling it back to the users.
- This is the ONLY to-go option for the Student Union Café. No Styrofoam boxes will be available.
- Your container MUST be able to close in order to take your food to-go.
